Göran Göransson Gyllenstierna

Baron Göran Göransson Gyllenstierna , also the elder , ( Swedish Göran Göransson den äldre earlier Gyllenstierna af Lundholm ; * 1601 in Årsta , † March 30, 1646 in Almare-Stäket ) was a Swedish admiral .

Life

Origin and family

Göran was a member of the Swedish barons Gyllenstierna af Lundholm . His parents were of Swedish Empire Admiral Göran Nilsson Gyllenstierna (1575-1618) and Ingeborg Claes yolk Bielkenstierna († 1628). Johan Nilsson Gyllenstierna (1569–1617), counter- imperial admiral in the Swedish-Polish throne dispute and founder of the Pomeranian Güldenstern line , was his uncle.

Göran married Anna Skytte (1610–1679), a daughter of Johan Skytte (1577–1645) , in 1630 and had seven children with her, including the sons and later (1674) Counts of Björksund and Helgö ( Greve af Björksund och Helgö ) , Johan Göransson Gyllenstierna (1635–1680), Swedish statesman and Göran Göransson Gyllenstierna (1632–1686), Swedish Imperial Council .

Career

Gyllenstierna studied in Tübingen from 1617 to 1620 . From 1627 to 1630 he was Rittmeister in the cavalry regiment of Småland . He was promoted to Vice Admiral in 1633 and was adjutant to Imperial Admiral Carl Carlsson Gyllenhielm (1574-1650) in 1635 . Finally, from 1640, he was Admiral and Landshövding in Uppsala County .

He died on his Almare-Stäket estate and was buried in the Riddarholm Church in Stockholm, where his widow had an epitaph made of black and white marble . A street was named after him in the north of Järfälla municipality .
