Göran Nicklasson

Göran Nicklasson (born August 20, 1942 - January 27, 2018 in Åmål ) was a Swedish football player . The midfielder , who won the Von Rosens Cup for the Swedish national championship with IFK Göteborg in 1969 , took part in the 1970 World Cup in Mexico with the Swedish national soccer team.

Career

Nicklasson began playing football at IF Viken in his hometown of Åmål, from where he moved to GIF Sundsvall . In 1964 he signed a contract with IFK Göteborg . However, as the clubs could not agree on the transfer modalities, the player was initially suspended for a year - the first such case in Swedish football. From 1965 on he was playing for the blue-whites in the Allsvenskan , with whom he became champions in the 1969 season under manager Bertil Johansson and teammates such as top scorer Reine Almqvist and Reine Feldt before Malmö FF eleven years after the last title win . Surprisingly, IFK Göteborg rose in the following season - as well as local rivals GAIS - in the second division . In the 1970/71 European Cup , the Polish champions Legia Warsaw failed in the first round (0: 4, 1: 2). He later returned to GIF Sundsvall, where he ended his active career after two seasons. He then worked full-time for a company in Sundsvall before moving back to Åmål for the rest of his life.

Nicklasson also played for the Swedish national team . With the country selection, he took part in the 1970 World Cup. On November 1, 1969, he played the World Cup qualifier in Paris against France (3-0) at the side of teammates such as Ronnie Hellström , Björn Nordqvist , Roger Magnusson , Bo Larsson and Ove Grahn . Under coach Orvar Bergmark he was the only IFK player in the World Cup squad at the World Cup finals in Mexico and played in two group games, the 1-0 defeat against Italy and the 1-0 win over Uruguay in the final group game. Despite the success, in which Ove Grahn, who was substituted for Nicklasson, scored the only goal of the game in the 84th minute of the game, the team missed promotion to the knockout stage, level on points with the South Americans due to the goal difference that was one goal worse.
