Roger Magnusson (born March 20, 1945 in Mönsterås ) is a former Swedish football player . The striker , who was a multiple international player for the Swedish national team , played in his home country, Germany, Italy and France throughout his playing career. His eight years younger brother Benno Magnusson also played in the Swedish national team and was u. a. Professional at 1. FC Kaiserslautern and Hertha BSC .

Career

Magnusson grew up in Blomstermåla . As a young player, he moved to the up-and-coming club Åtvidabergs FF in the early 1960s , who wanted to move from the second division to Allsvenskan with the support of the local adding machine manufacturer Facit . As a junior national player, the offensive player quickly became a regular at his new club. He regularly missed promotion with the team, in 1963 and 1964 they took second place in their second division season. Nevertheless, he played himself in the notebook of national coach Lennart Nyman , who helped him to his national team debut in June 1964. In the 4-1 win over Denmark in the Malmö Stadium , he added himself to the list of goalscorers alongside Prawitz Öberg , Harry Bild and Örjan Martinsson .

As a national player, Magnusson had drawn attention outside the country's borders. In the summer of 1966 he left Åtvidabergs FF - although with 77 goals of the season at the end of the season in autumn it was the most successful attack of the second division season, it was only second place behind IF Saab - and joined 1. FC Köln in the Bundesliga . The billy goat coach at the time , Willi Multhaup , used him a total of 20 times, scoring four goals. This meager yield contributed to the fact that after the end of the season, Cologne no longer placed any value on his services and gave him to Juventus Turin . However, Magnusson was also less of the type of a goalscorer than of the dribbling-strong preparer.

After also only one-year interlude in Italy Magnusson developed at Olympique Marseille a dangerous and crowd- right wing in France's Division 1 , where he is the ideal passer for the Yugoslavs Josip Skoblar has several national titles (two championships and cup wins and 1972, the Doublé ) and still has an excellent reputation today. Even decades later, OM fans rave about the "wing tongs" that the Swede formed on the right and Charly Loubet on the left winger from 1969 to 1971. Until he moved to France, Magnusson was also part of the Swedish national team. However, since the season in the French Division 1 lasted until the end of June in the summer of 1970 and thus took place at the same time as the World Cup in Mexico , he decided not to take part in the finals.

In 1974 Magnusson moved from Olympique to the traditional Paris club Red Star before moving back to Sweden in 1976. First he played in his home country for Helsingborgs IF in the Swedish second division. The change turned out to be too big, after only six season games he left the club again. He later played for Vilans BoIF and Landskrona BoIS . For the club he made his debut in the Allsvenskan, but at the end of the 1980 season he rose with the team from the first division.
