geography

course

The Gündelbach arises about one kilometer southwest of the Sachsenheimer village Häfnerhaslach just in the Gündelbacher district in the elongated Junghölzle . From the beginning it flows consistently south-east. While still in his blade forest, the K 1644 from Häfnerhaslach to Gündelbach steps up to his left and then follows him to the mouth.

At the foot of the valley trail, he steps below 300  m above sea level. NN into the hallway and now flows to the foot of the left of him, up to 387  m above sea level. NN along high Hamberg , the slope of which is still wooded, while to the right of it only low hills separate its small valley basin from that of the nearby and larger Streitenbach . A Waldklingenbach, which is only constant in the upper reaches, soon runs to it from the left plateau, after which the vineyards begin on the Lichtenberg slope . Through a notch in the slope, in which a vineyard path leads down, another tributary runs along this, which drains the over 1 hectare large Hamberger See on the wooded plateau .

At the mouth of this inlet are the first houses of the estuary village, which it passes through on its last kilometer in an almost southerly direction. Slightly above the village sports field at the opposite Mette Rufer the Gündelbach opens after a run of - depending on the batch of the source in Jung Hölzle - 3.8 to 4.4 km to the east current here Metter .

Catchment area

The Gündelbach has a catchment area of around 2.9 km². It extends from the north-western tip of the Junghölzles to about 388  m above sea level. NN about 4.0 km to the southwest to the mouth at about 234  m above sea level. NN ; across it it reaches a maximum width of 1.4 km. Since the Hamberg stands on the left and the Streitenbach flows very close to the right, the stream is much closer to the right watershed. A second, almost equally high point in the catchment area lies on the flat summit of the Hamberg and reaches 387  m above sea level. NN .

Competitors are the Kirbach in the north, the Steinbach in the northeast , and the already mentioned nearby Streitenbach in the whole west, which is less than half a kilometer away; both run almost parallel to the Gündelbach, the downward Steinbach runs at a much greater distance.
