Günter Herrmann (born September 2, 1934 in Saarbrücken ; † November 7, 2012 there ) was a German football and Saarland national player .

Career

Herrmann was active with Sportfreunde 05 in his hometown Saarbrücken in the 1950s . Since 1954 he played in the league. During this time he was appointed to the Saarland national team three times by national coach Helmut Schön . The only use of the all-rounder in the national jersey, which can be used in defense and attack, was the game on June 3, 1956 in Saarbrücken's Ludwigspark against Portugal's B selection , which ended in a 0-0 draw and where he stormed the right wing. He was also used in the only game of the Saarland B selection on May 1, 1955 against the B selection of the Netherlands, in which he scored a goal.

In 1957 Herrmann moved to local rivals SV Saar 05 Saarbrücken , where he played until 1963, alongside Kurt Clemens , among others . In 1958 he clashed in the game against FK Pirmasens - due to a suspension of the Palatinate on neutral terrain in Homburg - as a defender with the Pirmasens striker Heini Seebach. Herrmann's laceration was sewn in the clinic , but he came back to the field before the game was over. With his white bandage around his head, he prepared the 1-0 winning goal from Klaus Sinn just before the final whistle with a single effort from the center line - a goal assist that was still discussed in the press on his 75th birthday.

In the last year of the old first-class league, 1962/63, Herrmann, known as "de Patt", played 23 league games (1 goal) alongside his teammates Fritz Altmeyer and Gerd Peehs . Under the coach Hellmut Meidt - who was replaced by Otto Knefler on April 1, 1963 - he once again proved his versatility: He played in 13 games as a defender, in five as a right runner, in two as a right winger and once as a center forward, half right and as half-left.

Saarbrücken football was still a fixture in the southwest during these years; In addition to former Saar national players such as Herrmann, coaches and young players who would later succeed in the Bundesliga made a name for themselves. Herrmanns Saar 05 remained last in the three-way battle of the clubs from the state capital in 1963 and came in ninth. The 1. FC Saarbrücken landed - with the coach Helmuth Johannsen the offensive players Dieter Krafczyk , Erich Maas and Heinz Vollmar - in fifth, one place ahead of the sports fans, where the talent John Loehr alongside Horst Zingraf and Josef Christ under the Coach direction by Horst Buhtz could draw attention to himself. Herrmann later recalled that Saar 05 had its own perspective in the 1960s in order to be able to celebrate championships several times. After victories against the Saarland competition - in addition to the Saarbrücken clubs, Borussia Neunkirchen and Röchling Völklingen - club president Johann Stolz , a food wholesaler by profession , arranged a championship celebration without further ado. “Yes, we won the Saarland championship several times back then,” Herrmann recalled on the occasion of a local derby Saar 05 against Röchling in the association league in 2000.

After his active career, Günter Herrmann worked as a trainer; Among other things, he was twice active in this role at his home club, Sportfreunde 05, and at his former club SV Saar 05.
