In the same year he became an adjunct professor at the University of Hamburg . In 1966 he followed the call of the University of Cologne to her chair for orthopedics. He was a member of the Catholic student union K.St.V. Südmark Munich in the KV .

Imhäuser died in 1996 at the age of 84 and was buried in the Melaten cemetery in Cologne (hall 83).

Create

Coming from more conservative schools, Imhäuser helped shape the development of orthopedics in Germany in important ways. Initially he devoted himself to acetabular protrusion and chondrolysis . To correct the adolescent femoral head loosening he developed the intertrochanteric osteotomy of the upper end of the femur . The three-dimensional valgization, extension and derotation brings the slipped femoral head under the socket roof. The Imhäuser osteotomy is one of the most difficult interventions in orthopedic surgery and has not survived. Imhauser's name is also borne by the axial x-ray of the hip joint, in which the shaft and neck of the femur are aligned. It allows a reliable measurement of the femoral heads detached from the slip angle. The correct setting is only possible under fluoroscopy .

Imhäuser was particularly interested in foot deformities, especially clubfoot . As early as 1957 he was of the opinion that the so-called hook foot of the infant only needed a redression. The child's buckled foot is only a physiological stage of normal foot development and therefore does not require treatment.
