Günter Leykam (* 1960 in Nuremberg ) is a German singer ( baritone ).

Life

Leykam received his first musical and vocal training at the Musisches Gymnasium Bayreuth . After graduating from high school , he studied Protestant church music at the University for Protestant Church Music in Bayreuth.

Leykam then continued his studies at the State University of Music in Würzburg with Kammersänger Horst Laubenthal and passed his diploma examination with distinction. For this reason, he was the first in the history of the Würzburg University of Music to be awarded the master class in singing and was awarded the master class diploma by the university's senate. He then received teaching commitments at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg and the Musikhochschule Würzburg.

In 1990 he was appointed artistic director of the Bayreuth Bach Soloist Ensemble. Leykam initiated a concert activity of this orchestra with the soloists Axel Köhler , Horst Laubenthal, Florian Prey and Matti Salminen . He also went on concert tours within Europe and the USA. In London produced Leykam the Christmas Oratorio by Johann Sebastian Bach for BBC London.

This was followed by the Carinthian Summer with Beethoven's Missa solemnis , concerts in the Bastille Opera in Paris with staged Bach cantatas as well as regular concert activities with the Bavarian State Orchestra , radio and television recordings with, among others, the Bavarian Radio and the Bavarian Television , the Hessian Radio and the French Watch TV.

He had CD recordings with works such as the Petite Messe Solennelle by Gioacchino Rossini , the St. John Passion by Heinrich Schütz , the St. John Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach, the Bridge to Eternity by Siegfried Fietz as well as the solo CDs Merry Christmas everywhere and the double jubilee CD by Georg Friedrich Händel and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy released CD Sie eecht, die Trosaun ' .

In November 2016, Leykam gave a European premiere of the Requiem For The Living by the American composer Dan Forrest in the evang.-luth. Bayreuth Cross Church. Performers were the New European Soloists Ensemble as well as the Kantorei der Kreuzkirche and the chamber choir of the Markgräfin-Wilhelmine-Gymnasium Bayreuth. In October 2018 a CD was released under the label “Concerto Bayreuth” on the 150th anniversary of Carl Loewe's death with Günter Leykam and Werner Dörmann, piano.
