Horst Laubenthal

Horst Rüdiger Laubenthal (born March 8, 1939 in Eisfeld , Thuringia ; actually Horst Neumaier ) is a German tenor .

Life

Horst Laubenthal studied music from 1960 to 1965 at the Munich University of Music . He studied singing privately with Ks. Rudolf Laubenthal . In 1966 he was a prize winner at the VDMK singing competition in Berlin . Since his successful opera debut in 1967 as Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart at the Mozart Festival in Würzburg , Laubenthal has belonged to the elite of lyric tenors and made a name for himself internationally, especially as a Mozart singer.

In 1968 he sang the role of Gomez in the opera Zaide by Mozart at the Salzburg Festival . From 1968 he was a permanent member of the ensemble at the Stuttgart State Opera , and from 1973 he also had a permanent contract with the Deutsche Oper Berlin . In 1970 he made his debut at the Bayreuth Festival as a helmsman in the Flying Dutchman . In 1970 Herbert von Karajan brought him to the Easter and Summer Festival in Salzburg.

Laubenthal was a regular guest at all major opera houses: Vienna State Opera , Deutsche Oper Berlin , Hamburg State Opera , Bavarian State Opera Munich , Zurich Opera House , the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires and the Grand Opéra Paris. He also sang in Lisbon, Milan, Catania, Madrid, Naples and New York.

Laubenthal's repertoire ranged from the pre-classic to the modern. In addition to the Mozart parts, he also sang parts of the Slavic repertoire, e.g. B. the prince in Rusalka and Hans in The Bartered Bride . He also took on roles in Palestrina and in modern operas (Berg's Wozzeck and Lulu and Udo Zimmermann's White Rose ).

He worked with Herbert von Karajan, Georg Solti , Leonard Bernstein , Rudolf Kempe , Eugen Jochum , Karl Richter and Karl Böhm , among others .

As a song and concert singer he was heard in all major music centers. Until 2004 he was a full professor at the Musikhochschule Würzburg .

Horst Laubenthal is married to Marianne Laubenthal and lives in Pöcking .
