Günter Matthes (journalist)

Günter Matthes (born December 31, 1920 in Leipzig ; † November 21, 1995 in Berlin ) was a German journalist and recipient of the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class.

Life

In 1939 he graduated from high school in Leipzig. In 1940 he studied law for two trimesters. During the Second World War he served in labor and military service. He was then taken prisoner of war and was released to Berlin by the British in 1946. In 1948 he worked as a journalist for the Berliner Kurier . From 1952 he worked for the Berlin newspaper Der Tagesspiegel . In 1954 he received a daily column with the name On the edge noticed in this daily newspaper . In 1966 he received the Theodor Wolff Prize in the area of opinion, leading article, comment . In 1968 he received the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon, in 1979 he received the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class. Since 1984 he has been working in the editorial management of the Tagesspiegel .

He is the father of the actor Ulrich Matthes and the medical doctor, photographer and actor Dieter Matthes (* 1952).
