Günter Christian Ludwig Neumann (born March 19, 1913 in Berlin ; † October 17, 1972 in Munich ) was a German cabaret artist , lyricist, composer and pianist . He is often confused with his colleague Klaus Günter Neumann .

Life

After finishing school, Neumann attended the music academy in Berlin. From 1929 he worked as a piano humorist at the Kabarett der Komiker (KadeKo), later at the Katakombe , where he worked on the design of the cabaret programs. After KadeKo returned, he brought u. a. 1937 the cabaret revue Give him out. He also appeared on the radio at that time. As a soldier in World War II , he founded a front theater and, after he was taken prisoner of war, a camp theater.

After the end of the war he returned to Berlin, where he worked as a cabaret writer again. His greatest successes were the cabaret revues Alles Theater (1947) and Schwarzer Jahrmarkt (1948). During the Berlin blockade , Neumann published the satirical magazine “Insulaner” in West Berlin . This resulted in the post-war cabaret Die Insulaner , which developed into one of the most popular programs on the Berlin radio station RIAS and was later shown on German television. The main topic was the East-West confrontation with the "island situation" of West Berlin (hence the name). Ernst Reuter awarded Günter Neumann with the Berlin Freedom Bell. In addition to his cabaret work, Neumann also wrote film scripts and translated the musical Kiss Me, Kate into German. At the end of 1958 he moved to Munich, where he continued to work for television. So he wrote u. a. Contributions to Die Rückblende and wrote the framing chansons for Hans Rosenthal's Dalli Dalli broadcasts.
