Günter Prey

Günter Prey (born April 13, 1930 in Berlin ; † May 7, 1983 ) was a German politician ( SED ). From 1967 to 1974 he was Minister for Science and Technology of the GDR .

Life

Prey, son of a businessman, attended elementary and middle school. From 1947 to 1949 he studied chemistry and engineering economics at the chemical engineering school in Groß-Berlin, graduating as a chemical technician. From 1949 to 1951 he worked as a chemical technician at VEB Plasta Erkner . He completed further studies in 1951/52 at the chemical engineering school as a chemical engineer. In 1952/53 he was head of the production department at VEB Plasta Erkner. In 1953 he became a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). From 1953 to 1959 he was the chief controller at the Central Commission for State Control (ZKSK), chemistry department. He completed a distance learning course at the TH Dresden from 1951 to 1959 with a degree in engineering economics. In July 1959 he became deputy construction manager and in August 1960 director of the VEB Chemiefaserkombinat Guben . From 1960 he was a candidate and from 1962 to 1964 a member of the SED district leadership in Cottbus . In January 1963 he was on the VI. SED party congress as candidate and on December 5, 1964, at the 7th session of the Central Committee, elected member of the Central Committee of the SED . He was a member of the Central Committee until the Eighth Party Congress in June 1971.

In 1966/67 he acted as the deputy minister for the chemical industry in the GDR. In July 1967 he was appointed a member of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Science and Technology in the Stoph government. At the same time he was from 1968 deputy chairman of the Research Council of the GDR . On February 14, 1974 he was replaced as minister by the new head of government Horst Sindermann and confirmed again as deputy minister for the chemical industry. In April 1974 his successor as minister, Herbert Weiz , also took over the previously exercised function of head of the GDR delegation in the committee of the Council for Mutual Economic Aid (RGW) for scientific and technical cooperation. On September 27, 1974, he was also recalled as a member of the Council of Ministers. He held the position of Deputy Minister for the Chemical Industry until May 1982 and was then director of the Central Information Institute of the Chemical Industry in Berlin-Johannisthal until his death in May 1983 .
