Günter Zeiß (born July 20, 1941 ) is a former German athlete . In 1962 he set the German record in the triple jump and was able to improve it 5 years later in Stuttgart to 16.29 m. He held the Hessian best performance in the triple jump for 19 years.

As a 17-year-old, he jumped 7.05 m in the long jump and 1.86 m in the high jump , which, given the conditions at that time ( cinder track ), is much higher than it is today.

In 1961 he became German junior triple jump champion. He was later called up to the national team six times and won six Hessian championship titles. At the military world championships in 1963 he won the bronze medal. However, he was then unable to qualify for the 1964 and 1968 Olympic Games due to an ankle injury .

Günter Zeiß was characterized by his great diversity: He was successful in almost all jump and sprint disciplines in athletics (7.62 m in the long jump and 48.7 s over 400 meters ). He also played football sporadically as a left winger at TSV Udenhausen and later for the old men of SV Nordshausen . He even stood in the handball goal of ESV Jahn Kassel for some time .
