Count Günther von Waldeck-Wildungen (born June 29, 1557 at Friedrichstein Castle in Alt-Wildungen ; † May 23, 1585 ibid) was Count von Waldeck - Wildungen from 1577 until his death .

He was the son of Count Samuel von Waldeck and his wife Anna-Maria von Schwarzburg-Blankenburg . So he belonged to the Waldeck family . Samuel had received the office of Wildungen as Paragium from his father Philip IV and resided at Friedrichstein Castle in Alt-Wildungen.

Günther lived at the court of Landgrave Wilhelm IV of Hesse in Kassel until he took over government . He followed his two uncles Daniel († June 7, 1577) and Heinrich IX, who died shortly after each other in 1577 . († October 3, 1577) as Count von Waldeck-Wildungen. Günther married Margarethe on December 15, 1578 in Wildungen, (* 1559, † 1580) the daughter of Johann I (Waldeck) from the Waldeck- Landau line , who died in 1580. In his second marriage, he married the count's daughter Margarethe von Gleichen (* May 28, 1556, † January 14, 1619). The acquisition of the County of Pyrmont by the Counts of Waldeck in 1625 was based on this marriage and a related inheritance contract. Wilhelm Ernst , who was born on June 8, 1584 at Schloss Friedrichstein, came from this second marriage September 1598 died while studying in Tübingen .

On May 21, 1585 Günther fell seriously ill during a hunting trip. His badly deteriorating health made it impossible to reach Friedrichstein Castle. A sick bed was built for him in the Altenwildungen school room . He died here in the late afternoon, between 5 and 6 pm on May 23, 1585. On May 27, he was buried in the town church of Bad Wildungen . Since 1962, his final resting place has been in a crypt in the western vault of the St. Nikolaus burial chapel in Marienthal Abbey in Netze .
