Henry IX. (Waldeck)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Henry IX. von Waldeck-Wildungen ( December 10, 1531 - October 3, 1577 in Werbe ) was the fourth son of Count Philip IV (1493 - 1574) and his first wife Margarethe von Ostfriesland (1500 - 1537) and was the ruling Count of Waldeck - Wildungen for four months .

Heinrich succeeded his brother Daniel (* 1530; † 1577) , who died childless on June 7, 1577, as Count von Waldeck-Wildungen. Although he was the seventh ruling count with the name Heinrich, but because the Waldeck house had previously also included the non- ruling Heinrich II and Heinrich III. had given, he is usually counted as Heinrich IX. designated.

From 1562 to 1563 he participated on the Protestant side in the First Huguenot War in France. After his return he married the Protestant Baroness Anna von Viermund zu Nordenbeck (* 1538, † 1599) in Korbach on December 19, 1563 , who brought the Nordenbeck rulership into the marriage. The marriage remained childless.

Anna's stepcousins, who did not recognize the female line of succession, attacked and shortly afterwards occupied the Nordenbeck Castle , which was the center of Anna's property. Heinrich first had to postpone a counterattack due to lack of money. During the eventual deployment, however, his horse ran away and he died, hanging on the stirrup, in front of his wife Anna in October 1577. Anna was only returned to Nordenbeck in 1580 after a successful complaint to the Imperial Court of Justice .

Heinrich's successor as Count von Waldeck-Wildungen was his nephew Günther (born June 29, 1557, † May 23, 1585), son of Samuel von Waldeck, who died in 1570 .
