Günther Eisenhardt

Günther Eisenhardt (* 1933 in Gleiwitz ; † 2003 in Dessau ) was a German composer , musicologist and university professor .

Günther Eisenhardt studied music education , composition and composition / ear training in Halle (Saale) , Berlin and Dresden . From 1955 to 1979 he was initially deputy director of the Dessau Music School . In 1980 he was with contributions to Dessauer music history for Dr. phil. did his doctorate and habilitation in 1984 with the topic " Moritz Hauptmann and his influence on the development of dualism and polarism in music theory". From 1981 Günther Eisenhardt worked as a lecturer in music theory at the Pädagogische Hochschule Potsdam , today's University of Potsdam . In 1986 he was appointed full professor there.

From 1976 to 1996 he was head of the Dessau department of the Halle composer class . He then continued his teaching activity part-time and as a guest lecturer in the class’s summer courses.

After his emeritus in 1998, Eisenhardt devoted himself mainly to promoting new music and his own compositions. He was a co-founder of the Kurt Weill Festival in Dessau-Roßlau ( Saxony-Anhalt ) and is an internationally respected researcher, particularly of the Anhalt music tradition.

honors and awards

In 1975 he received the Wilhelm Müller Art Prize of the city of Dessau. In 1998 he was awarded the Central German Music Prize for his life's work at the 2nd International Andreas Werckmeister Festival .
