Günther Thiersch

Günther Thiersch (* 1914 in Neumarkt in Silesia ; † October 17, 1986 in Pinneberg ) was a German painter, draftsman, graphic artist of the 20th century. Since 1956 he has also worked as an author and illustrator of textbooks for the arts. Geography and biology classes. His works also include object pictures, objects and objects in boxes.

Günther Thiersch studied shipbuilding at the Technical University of Danzig in 1935 and was then drafted into the Navy in 1936. At the end of the Second World War he was taken prisoner by France and America, after which he studied art education and handicrafts at what is now the Hamburg University of Fine Arts and geography and art history at the University of Hamburg. After passing the state examination , he began his career as an art teacher, from 1972 onwards he worked exclusively as a freelance artist.

He made his first drawings and watercolors at the age of 15 and exhibited them in his hometown. There are numerous early works from his younger years in family ownership. Between 1963 and 1986 he created around 500 works. Most of his works are in a few large private collectors, the Pinneberg Museum (Museum of the City of Pinneberg), as well as in family ownership, numerous works are in private free float, some in public ownership. The copyrights of the works belong to his daughter.

The term magical realism is often used for the works of Günther Thiersch . He had his first solo exhibition in 1965 in the New Art Center in Hamburg, followed by numerous others in Kaiserslautern , Bonn , Pinneberg , Washington, DC , Munich and Frankfurt . He was also involved in a large number of other exhibitions. In Bönningstedt he created a weather station in 1973 and a world clock system in 1975, but there are still 10 other works of 'building-related art' on public buildings.
