Günther Wölfing

Günther Wölfing (born March 5, 1940 in Wasungen ; † August 11, 2019 ) was a German historian .

Life

Wölfing first worked as a teacher and received his doctorate in 1968 at the University of Jena to Dr. phil. The topic of his two-volume dissertation was late medieval popular movements and class struggles in the cities of Schmalkalden , Wasungen and Meiningen . From 1978 he worked at the Agricultural History Museum of the Suhl district , which is under construction and has been operating as the Hennebergisches Museum since 1990 , in the Veßra monastery as head of the agricultural history department. From 1995 to 2003 he was director of the house.

Wölfing was the founder of the Henneberg Working Group in 1986 and, from 1990 to 2002, the first chairman of the Hennebergisch-Franconian History Association that emerged from it . He published numerous books and essays on topics related to the Henneberger Land and the Veßra monastery.

In December 2018 he was made an honorary citizen of the city of Wasungen .
