Production and publication

BBC Three first announced the series in January 2015, which was filmed in Bristol in the summer of 2015 .

With writer Marnie Dickens, producer Elizabeth Kilgarriff and directors Vanessa Caswill and China Moo-Young, the series was developed by a women's team that maintains a feminine perspective on the victim. Dickens, who is less interested in the imprisonment than in what happens afterwards, has deliberately not put the perpetrator in the foreground in order not to take this away from the victim. The actress who played the kidnap victim, Jodie Comer , researched real abduction cases for the role to understand the effects of isolation. She received and read a book about Natascha Kampusch from Vanessa Caswill .

The series was first released online in the UK on February 28, 2016 on BBC Three, after the BBC Three ceased linear broadcasting on February 16, making it the first drama series on its online presence. Thirteen was the most popular series of the first few weeks based on the first published online viewer numbers on BBC Three . From March 6, 2016, she appeared in the linear program on BBC Two . On the release day of the last episode of the first season, March 27, 2016, Dickens announced that there would be no second season.

The first release in the US took place on June 26th on BBC America and the German on November 15th, 2016 on Maxdome . The German DVD and Blu-ray were released on January 27, 2017.

Here too, Jodie Comer in particular is highly praised: “With an extremely courageous performance, the 23-year-old manages to play this extremely complex figure in an approachable and believable way between manipulating her environment and falling back into the reality of an unimaginable trauma.
