The Hennebergisch-Fränkischer Geschichtsverein (HFG) is a history association based in southern Thuringia and Lower Franconia . The association is dedicated to researching the history of the Henneberger Land, which belongs to the Franconian region, from the early days to the present.
history
Founded until 1945
The association was founded on November 11, 1832 as the Henneberg antiquity research association in Meiningen (HaV) on the initiative of the poet Ludwig Bechstein in Meiningen . The statutes approved by Duke Bernhard II in December 1832 explained the purpose and activities of the association for research and explanation of regional history as well as the preservation and preservation of monuments and historical objects. From 1834 the association published the writings on the history of German antiquity . Since the HaV initially mainly turned to the region in and around Meiningen, some members resigned in 1888 and founded the Association for Meiningen History and Regional Studies (VMGL). This association also published its research results in series. As the collections grew, there was soon a lack of suitable accommodation. Senior building officer Eduard Fritze had the Henneberger Haus built as the new domicile of HaV in 1894 , which housed the collections until 1905. This was given to the city of Meiningen in 1918 and the collection became part of the Meiningen museums .
On January 1, 1936, the HaV and the VMGL merged to form the Hennebergisch-Fränkisches Geschichtsverein (HFG), which the Hennebergisches Geschichtsverein zu Schleusingen joined in 1937 . From 1937 to 1941, the HFG brought out five editions of the “Yearbook of the Hennebergisch-Franconian History Association”. After the end of the war in 1945, the association had to cease its activities as a result of the general ban on associations issued by the occupying power. This ban was not lifted again during the GDR era.
1990 to the present
In 1986 the "Henneberg History Working Group" was founded, which was subordinate to the GDR Cultural Association . After reunification , this working group sought to revive the HRA as soon as possible. On March 11, 1990, the Hennebergisch-Franconian Association was re-established in the Brahms Hall of Elisabethenburg Palace in Meiningen with the help of the Friends of Mainfränkischer Kunst und Geschichte in Würzburg and the Historical Society in Coburg . The first chairman after the re-establishment of the HRA, initially with 130 members, was the historian Günther Wölfing . Since 1991 the HFG has been publishing its yearbooks again, which are published by the Hennebergisches Museum Kloster Veßra.
The Hennebergisches Museum in Veßra Monastery mainly documents the family history of the Counts of Henneberg , the Meiningen museums and the Meiningen State Archives the history of the County of Henneberg (area of today's southern Thuringia) and the Franconian part of the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen , the Henneberg Museum in Münnerstadt is dedicated to it the history of the county of Henneberg in what is now Lower Franconia.
