Szombierki Bytom (officially Towarzystwo Sportowe Szombierki Bytom ) is a Polish football club founded in 1919 in Schomberg - today as Szombierki a district of Bytom , the former Bytom - as Klub Sportowy Poniatowski . The greatest success of the club was the Polish championship in 1980. At the moment, the club only plays in the amateur field. Overall, Szombierki Bytom played 25 seasons in the first division and is still in 17th place in the all-time table . The club's record scorer is eight-time national player Jerzy Wilim , who scored 89 times in the top division between 1952 and 1970 and 1974.
history
The association was founded on February 21, 1919 by members of the Polish ethnic group. In the first game in the spring of 1920 they defeated Polonia Beuthen under the name KS Poniatowski 4-1. The following years the club remained in the lower leagues.
After the Second World War, the club was re-established in what was now Polish Upper Silesia as Robotniczy Klub Sportowy Szombierki ("Szombierki Workers Sports Club ") and played in the first division in 1949, but was relegated there in 1950 after the second season. 1959 was relegated from the second division. In 1961 the promotion took place again and in 1963 the club was again first class. The second season after promotion, Szombierki finished as runner- up in 1965 . In 1972 Szombierki Bytom was relegated for a year, but rose directly back up and re-established itself in the top division. In 1980 the club was able to win the Polish championship for the first and only time. Just four years after winning the championship in 1980, the club rose again - between 1952 and 1979 also five times semi-finalist in the national cup competition - and was able to return to the first division in 1987 for two years and in 1992 for a year.
1997 was relegated from the second and the following year from the third division. On July 7, 1997, the club was merged with city rivals Polonia, but due to constant unrest, the merger was ended on November 30, 1998.
Since 2006 the club has descended into even deeper depressions in the amateur field and was only seventh-class between 2007 and 2009.
