GR 221
The GR 221 (Catalan: Gran Recorregut 221 , Spanish: Gran Recorrido 221 ) is a GR long-distance hiking trail ( ) on the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca . In the regional official language, Catalan, it is called Ruta de Pedra en Sec ("Route of the dry stone [walls]"), the Spanish / Castilian name for this route is Ruta de Piedra en Seco .
course
The 150-kilometer route, which has been planned since autumn 2000, connects the two Mallorcan towns of Port d'Andratx and Pollença along the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range . It is considered a demanding hiking trail, as it runs over long stretches through alpine terrain and far away from populated areas.
Currently (April 2014) the trail is still in the marking phase. Not all sections of the route have been finally determined, as around 10 percent of the routes run through private land and the legal situation still requires clear clarification. Stages 1, 2 and 3 are not yet marked ( ) or only marked with stones , only a beginning (
) of stage 5 is signposted; the other stages (
) are usually provided with plenty of signposts such as signs, posts and information boards. After completion, the path will consist of nine very different stages, which are based on mountain huts and overnight accommodations that are currently only partially available.

Hikers who would like to stay overnight in the huts must register in advance. The following refuges are currently in operation as accommodation on the GR 221:
