The GT6-70D / N is a since 1995 in Karlsruhe inserted Straßenbahntriebzug . The vehicle built by DUEWAG and, from 1999 onwards, by Siemens was the first low-floor vehicle type of Verkehrsbetriebe Karlsruhe (VBK). Similar six-axle vehicles were manufactured as UT-3800 for the Valencia Metro and the Lisbon tram .

construction

technology

The GT6‑70D / N is a 29.68 m long and 2.65 m wide six-axle tram train. With a width of 2.65 m, the cars are based on the GT8‑80C and GT8‑100C / 2S light rail cars and are 28 cm wider than the previous generation of GT6 ‑ D and GT8 ‑ D trams . As a result, the trams were partially restricted in their use. This required some reconstruction measures to increase the distance between the tracks in the Karlsruhe tram network, which was ended with the reconstruction of the line to Rintheim in 2014.

The car body consists of three parts, which are continuously accessible and which rest on two conventional motor bogies at the ends. A chassis with idler wheels is attached under the middle segment. The four axles of the outer bogies are each driven by a motor with an output of 127 kW. This enables the vehicles to reach a top speed of 80 km / h. The Scharfenberg couplings of 37.8 ton car allow tractions with other GT6-70D / N and GT8-70D / N .

By using three-phase motors , the floor height could be lowered by 56 cm from the 90 cm otherwise usual in Karlsruhe to 34 cm. The trains are barrier-free on appropriately developed platforms. The low-floor share is 75%, with the vehicle floor being raised by 27 cm at the outer ends above the powered bogies.

During the year 2015, were in all cars roll band indicator on the front by orange LED - matrix displays replaced.

inner space

There are 88 seats and 86 standing places per train, which are accessed via four double doors. There is a multipurpose area on each of the two front doors . To display the next stop red-line serve LED - matrix displays at the ends and the middle of the vehicle. At the front joint of the vehicle, next to the second door, there is a ticket machine for purchasing tickets while driving. In addition, to ensure the safety of passengers, the entire vehicle interior is monitored with cameras on every tram .

Coloring

The GT6-70D / N were designed differently from the previous vehicles in a slightly different paint scheme. The vehicles are painted in three colors, with a car body in the color yellow, an anthracite apron and window band and a signal red decorative strip above the window band.

Car 238 was the only car that was repainted in the current color scheme of the Karlsruhe Transport Authority. The vehicle is three-colored - with a car body in the color dahlia yellow , a signal red apron and a black window band.

history

delivery

In October 1992 the Verkehrsbetriebe Karlsruhe (VBK) ordered 20 new low-floor trams with three-phase drives for a total price of DM 75.8 million from the manufacturer DUEWAG, which at the time belonged to the Siemens group . They were intended to replace the old non-barrier-free high-floor trams of the types GT6-EP , GT8-EP , GT6-D and GT8-D from the 1960s and 1970s and thus become the first barrier-free low-floor trams in Karlsruhe.

On May 23, 1995, the first completed tram arrived at the depot West, which was presented to the public at a press conference on June 13, 1995. The second tram arrived on August 11, 1995, and the remaining trams were able to operate until August 23, 1996.

As of 1999, because the GT6-70D / N offered too little space for some lines, the ten meter longer version GT8-70D / N was delivered. It was not until 2000 that VBK ordered the GT6-70D / N from Siemens again . The first train arrived in Karlsruhe on September 27, 2002, the last in autumn 2004. Delivery of the third series began on November 24, 2004 and lasted until June 27, 2005.

A total of three series of vehicles were delivered up to 2005:

Delivery series dare Construction year number
1 221-240 1995-1996 20th
4th 241-250 2002-2003 10
5 251-265 2004-2005 15th

The vehicles of the fourth and fifth delivery series differ from the first by a modified front apron and screwed-in side windows.

Conversions

  • 223: had a different paint finish in the front area until 2007. The gray paint was made narrower. Now it is in the new paint scheme.
  • 225: has had a new front and rear fairing since August 2015. It now looks like the series 241 to 265. The 230 and 232 cars got the new front and rear panels after an accident repair. Car 238 also has new front and rear panels, and on top of that it got a new coat of paint in the current color variant. It now looks like the GT8-70D / N 303. Other cars with new front and rear panels are 221, 222, 223 (new paint scheme), 225, 226, 227, 229, 230, 232, 233, 234, 235, 237 , 238 (new paint scheme) and 239. There are still 5 pieces with old cladding.
  • 243: had a screen information system in the interior on a trial basis in 2003.
  • 260 and 263: Test run of free internet access for passengers via W-LAN
  • 221–265: Installation of LED destination indicators on the front
  • 221–265: Installation of surveillance cameras
  • 221–265: Installation of LED destination indicators on the sides
  • 221–265: Installation of a third brake light
  • 221–265: Installation of ticket machines, thus one seat less
  • 221–265: Have a cover for the lower rear window to prevent rubbish from being deposited.
  • Conversion for tunnel operation, installation of route cameras, fire alarms, emergency brake override (since 2013) and new red seats that are flame-retardant. (currently 221, 223, 225, 226, 227, 229, 230, 232, 233, 234, 237, 238, 240, 242, 243, 245, 246, 248, 250, 251, 255, 258 and 261)
  • The cars 223, 224, 232 and 238 have received the new paint scheme

After a serious accident on March 1, 2019, car 229 was so badly damaged that it was retired and scrapped.

commitment

The trains usually run as single wagons on lines 5 and 6, and during holidays and off-peak times also on line 2. A special feature is their use on the Stadtbahn Karlsruhe's S2 tram line , which, unlike the other tram lines, is operated by the VBK and not by the Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft is operated. Associations of two GT6-70D / N on lines 1 and S2, and occasionally on line 3, are typical.
