Life

Gabriele Langendorf initially trained as a textile pattern designer at KBC in Lörrach from 1977 to 1982 . From 1982 to 1984 she studied at the University of Art and Design in Basel , then until 1986 free painting with Franz Fediér . From 1989 to 1991 she was a visiting student at the Frankfurt Städelschule with Professor Raimer Jochims . 1993 winner of the exhibition young west in Recklinghausen . In 1994 she received a working grant from the Art Fund Foundation , a year later a travel grant from the Hessian Cultural Foundation , and in 1999 a grant from the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart. In 2001 in Lörrach she was awarded the “Zonta Regio Art Prize” of the Zonta clubs in the border triangle of Germany, France and Switzerland.

From 2003 to 2006 she was a lecturer for drawing at the Frankfurt Technical College for Design (Gutenberg School). For the autumn / winter semester 2006/2007 she was appointed to succeed Professor Bodo Baumgarten at the Hochschule der Bildenden Künste (HBKsaar) in Saarbrücken . There she takes on the subject of painting and drawing. In October 2013 she took over the office of Ivica Maksimovic as rector of the HBKSaar.

Langendorf has presented her drawings and paintings at numerous solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad since 1987, including at the Kunsthalle Basel , the art gallery of the Marburger Kunstverein, the Akademie Schloss Solitude, the Frankfurter Kunstverein , and at the Kunsthalle Kulturverein Alte Schule Baruth , in the Kunstverein Weil am Rhein , in the gallery of the city of Backnang and in other private galleries. Her works are represented in several renowned collections, e.g. B. in the Deutsche Bank Collection .

The main motifs of her predominantly representational drawings are rooms, both in buildings and outdoors. The main theme is the relationship between architecture and society to the landscape and the natural environment, whereby people are not depicted directly, but only appear indirectly.

Her pictures of hotel rooms and, subsequently, private bedrooms, which were created on the basis of photo templates from her family, friends and acquaintances, became particularly well known. Because the photo templates were made by the image providers themselves at their own discretion, the viewing angle remains under their control despite the very private subject. In these pictures, Langendorf uses a wide range of pictorial means to process her individual relationship with these familiar people and consequently describes the resulting works as portraits.
