Life

Gabrielle Spaeth was born in Hanover in 1939. At the age of 14, she read the Monadology of Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz and found through his writings and literature of their own life theme.

After this school book publisher went bankrupt in 1981 and was taken over by the Holtzbrinck publishing group , Spaeth went into business for herself and founded her own publishing house, Leibniz Buchwarte , on February 22, 1985 in Bad Münder .

"I wanted to make Leibniz, who lived in Hanover for 40 years, accessible from another side,"

explained the publisher, whose books repeatedly made the life and work of the universal genius the subject of the Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung .

In 1990 the Norwegian educator and writer Jostein Gaarder offered her the manuscript for his novel Sophie's World for publication, which she referred to the larger Carl Hanser Verlag with his novel on the history of philosophy .
