Gaby summer
Gaby Sommer (born December 24, 1959 in Wiesbaden ; † October 10, 2018 ) was a German photographer and photojournalist .
Life
From 1979, Sommer worked as a freelance photographer for the Lahnsteiner edition of the Rhein-Zeitung in Koblenz. She made her first journalistic trip to Burkina Faso . From 1980 she worked for the Associated Press , later for the Gamma agency and the Reuters news agency . Her pictures have appeared in Time , Maclean’s and Gente , among others . Many of her international assignments took her to Eastern Europe. From 1989 portraits were taken for various magazines such as Bunte and Spiegel . From 1995 onwards, Sommer worked with portrait photography for national and international companies.
Starting in 2002, the independent photo projects Heimat , Himmel auf Erden and Rheingold were created , which Sommer has shown in exhibitions since 2013. In 2005 she was appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Indochina Media Memorial Foundation (IMMF) and trained professional photographers in Vietnam on their behalf . In 2006 he was appointed to the German Society for Photography (DGPh) . She lived near the Loreley until her death . Gaby Sommer died on October 10, 2018 at the age of 58 years to cancer .
