Gail Sherriff

Gail Sherriff (also known as Gail Chanfreau , Gail Lovera and Gail Benedetti ; born April 3, 1945 in Australia ) is a former French tennis player with Australian roots.

life and career

Chanfreau played for the Australian Fed Cup team in 1966 . In 1968 she emigrated to France , took French citizenship and competed for the French Fed Cup team from 1969 to 1980 .

After such a clash in 1884 , Gail played against her sister Carol in only the second match between sisters at the Wimbledon Championships in 1966 . The next sibling match took place in 2000 between Serena and Venus Williams .

Chanfreau reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open in 1967 and 1972 and the French Open in 1968 and 1971 . In 1967, 1970 and 1971 she won the women's doubles competition at the French Open with Françoise Durr and in 1976 with Fiorella Bonicelli .

Personal

Besides her sister, she also has a brother. In 1968 she married the French tennis player Jean-Baptiste Chanfreau and moved to France. She concluded a second marriage with the French tennis player Jean Lovera .
