Helen Gourlay

Helen Gourlay Cawley (born December 23, 1946 in Launceston , Tasmania ) is a former Australian tennis player .

Success and career

In her career, Gourlay took part in two Grand Slam finals in tennis singles, in which she was defeated by her compatriot and former world number one Evonne Cawley at the French Open in 1971 and at the Australian Open in 1977 . She celebrated her greatest successes in women's doubles. She won the Australian Open four times in doubles (1972, 1976, January and December 1977) and once the Wimbledon Championships (1977), where she reached the final in 1974. In addition to this finals, she played in 1971 and 1977 in the final of the women's doubles competition at the French Open.

In 1973 and 1975 she played for the Australian Fed Cup team . She won six of her eleven games.
