The Gailbach ( French Ruisseau le Gailbach , in the local dialect “Gelbach”) is a nearly five kilometer long stream in the east of the former Lorraine and in the south of the Saarland , which flows into the Blies from the left . The two places Obergailbach on the French side and Niedergailbach on the German side of the border are named after their location on the stream.

The Gailbach rises southeast of Obergailbach and it flows out at an altitude of about 209 m above sea level. NN from the left into the German-French border river Blies immediately above Reinheim .
The hills surrounding it are Mittelbruck , Zitters , Brücker Berg , and at Niedergailbach Buchenberg , Sperrberg , Buchenbüsch and Galgenberg .

The Gailbach is a carbonate low mountain range. It is characterized negatively by a high density of migrating barriers , phosphorus and nitrogen pollution from liquid manure discharges , ammonium pollution and an oxygen deficit .
The part of the beech mountain "Pelouses à Obergailbach" belonging to France is a Natura 2000 protected area, of which a small part is "Le Grundwiese" as a zone naturelle d'intérêt écologique, faunistique et floristique (ZNIEFF). The creek belonging to Germany is part of the Bliesgau biosphere reserve .
