Gaillard de la Mothe (* in Bordeaux ; † December 20, 1356 in Avignon ) was a French cardinal of the Roman Church .
Life
The nephew of Pope Clement V was canon in Narbonne and apostolic protonotary . Since 1312 praecentor of the diocese of Chichester and prebendary of Milton, he became archdeacon of Oxford in 1313.
Pope John XXII. raised him on December 17, 1316 cardinal deacon of the titular deaconry Santa Lucia in Silice . From 1321 to 1324 prebendar of Stoke, he was from 1324 prebendary of Aylesbury. After attending the conclave of 1334 , he was crowned by Pope Benedict XII. with the tiara too. He also took part in the conclave of 1342 .

He died in Avignon in 1356 and was buried in Bazas at the side of his uncle Pope Clement V. The tomb was destroyed by Huguenots on January 6, 1577 , and the corpses were stripped of their pontifical robes and burned.
