Gaius Charles (born May 2, 1983 in Manhattan , New York ) is an American actor .

General

Charles was born in Manhattan but also lived in Queens . He later moved with his family to Teaneck , New Jersey , where he graduated from Teaneck High School in 2001. He attended Carnegie Mellon University . There he obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts . He also studied at the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney .

Career

He had many small guest appearances, including in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit . Charles attended over 250 auditions before being inducted into the cast of Friday Night Lights in 2006. In the first two seasons he played Brian "Smash" Williams in the main cast, in the third season he only appeared as a supporting role. Charles starred in the ninth season of Grey's Anatomy hospital series. During the tenth season he was part of the main cast.
