Galeas Maria Graf von Thun and Hohenstein also called Galeazzo (born September 24, 1850 in Trient , † March 26, 1931 in Rome ) was an Austrian nobleman, administrative lawyer and from 1905 until his death the 75th Grand Master of the Order of Malta .

Galeas Thun was the youngest son of Guidobald Maria Thun and Hohenstein and his wife, Teresa Guidi dei Marchesi di Bagno.

Life

Galeas Thun studied from 1869 to 1873 at the Universities of Innsbruck and Prague Jus . He then worked in the civil service until 1885. In 1875 he entered the Order of Malta as a Knight of Justice, and in 1885 he was elected as the plenipotentiary and representative of the Grand Priory of Bohemia and Austria at the Council of the Order in Rome. He put 1886, the profession , and in 1891 was commander of the Coming Maidelberg .

Thun was Profess-Großkreuz-Bailli and was elected Grand Master at the General Chapter of the Order of Malta on March 6, 1905. In the same year he was made a member of the manor house .

Thun led the order through the First World War , in which the order was strongly committed to the care and care of the wounded. Thun spent most of the war time in his native Austria and invested a large part of the order's assets in Austrian war bonds, which were worthless after the end of the war.

Thun and Hohenstein retired in 1929 because of his serious illness and was represented by Fra ′ Pio Franchi de Cavalieri as deputy of the grand master from March 8, 1929 until the election of the new grandmaster on May 30, 1931 .
