The Galium Aristatum ( Galium aristatum ) is a plant of the genus Galium ( Galium ) within the family of Rubiaceae (Rubiaceae).

description

The awn bedstraw grows as a deciduous, perennial herbaceous plant and reaches heights of 20 to 60, rarely up to 80 centimeters. It does not form runners . The stem is consistently square, coarse, not bluish frosted, grass-green, individually standing and upright. Six to eight leaves are whorls together. The leaf blade is 4 to 6.5 centimeters long and 3 to 5 millimeters wide, widest in the middle or above the middle, lanceolate, gradually pointed, without a distinct vein network, blue-green underneath and rough on the edge.

The flowering period extends from June to August. The corolla has a diameter of 2 to 4 millimeters. The petals are rounded and have an awning tip.

The fruit is smooth and bare.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 22.

Occurrence

The awn bedstraw occurs in the Pyrenees and the Alps. In Central Europe it populates deciduous and mixed deciduous forests, preferably in the middle altitudes of the Central European Alps ; it also occurs occasionally in the foothills of the Alps east of the Iller . In the Limestone Alps it occurs scattered in the Northern Limestone Alps, it is probably more common than in the southern. It rises to the tree line . It occurs mainly in societies of the Carpinion association, also the sub-association Cephalanthero-Fagenion and the order Origanetalia.

Awn's bedstraw thrives best on calcareous , nutrient - rich , shallow, stony loam soils .
