from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gary Thomas Brabham (born March 29, 1961 in Wimbledon , Great Britain ) is a former Australian racing car driver .

Career

Gary Brabham is the son of three-time Formula 1 world champion Jack Brabham and the brother of Geoff and David Brabham , who are also racing drivers.

Brabham drove in the Australian Formula Ford in 1982 . Then two seasons in British Formula Ford 2000, then three seasons in British Formula 3 , which he finished in 1988 in second place with four wins. In 1989 he won the British Formula 3000 Championship . During this time he occasionally competed in races in other categories, such as the Bathurst 1000 in 1987 with a BMW .

In 1990 Brabham appeared briefly in Formula 1 . The newly founded Italian team Life Racing reported him to the first two races of the 1990 season. In the Life L190 , which according to observers did not meet the technical standard of Formula 1, Brabham failed clearly in the pre-qualification. Then he gave up his commitment to Life. He did not get another cockpit in Formula 1. He later drove sports car races and in the US Champ Car series. In 1995 he retired from racing.

Child molestation convictions

Gary Brabham has been convicted of child sexual abuse multiple times in Australia . In 2009, a court sentenced him to prison for molesting a child who was less than 12 years old. Brabham initially managed to hide the conviction and detention from the public. After his release, he claimed in several interviews that he had meanwhile worked for international automotive companies in the development sector. In 2016 there was another conviction, in connection with which the previous criminal proceedings became public. Brabham was found guilty by a Brisbane court in April 2016 of repeatedly raping a girl between the ages of six and ten from 2003 to 2007. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
