In the fall of 1997, he finally enrolled at the Delaware County Community College and began studying communications, which he said he was heading in the direction he would have needed for his future career. He later moved to Temple University , where he graduated in 2001 with a degree in film and media studies. While in college, he worked at Aronimink Golf Club to save money on a move to Los Angeles . He also gained his first film experience through the Temple University internship program when he was allowed to work in a DreamWorks studio as an intern for the television series Malcolm in the middle . After working closely with New Line Cinema on various projects for several years , he was offered the post of screenwriter for Annabelle (2014), which he accepted. During the shooting, Dauberman was even allowed to be present on the film set to exchange ideas with director John R. Leonetti and answer questions. As a result, Dauberman developed into one of the leading creative minds behind the Conjuring universe . He wrote the scripts for Annabelle 2 (2017) and The Nun (2018), produced Lloronas Fluch (2019) and also worked as an executive producer on The Nun . He also made his directorial debut with the 2019 film Annabelle 3 , for which he also wrote the screenplay. Dauberman also wrote Es (2017) , which was highly rated by the international press, and also wrote the screenplay for its sequel Es Kapitel 2 , which was released in theaters in autumn 2019. For the adaptation of the novel Brennen, also written by Stephen King , Salem has to act as both screenwriter and executive producer. He was also supposed to develop the horror film Are You Afraid of the Dark , based on the Canadian television series Scary, Gray, Goosebumps , but left the project in June 2019.

Dauberman is a devout Christian and tries to include faith in his films. He's also a big fan of Stephen King and Edgar Allan Poe , also because he's always been passionate about the supernatural. He is married and has a daughter.
