Swamp Thing is an American horror series about the fictional character Swamp Thing from DC Comics . The series was first published on May 31, 2019 on the streaming portal DC Universe and comprises a season with ten episodes.
History of origin
On May 2, 2018, it was announced that DC Universe was commissioning a television series about Swamp Thing. In this Mark Verheiden , Gary Dauberman , James Wan and Michael Clear as executive producers announced. Swamp Thing was created in cooperation between Atomic Monster Productions and Warner Bros. Television . On September 4, 2018, it was reported that Len Wiseman has joined as Executive Producer and is directing the first episode.
Filming began on Greenfield Lake in Wilmington , a North Carolina port city , in early November 2018. Filming ended on May 6, 2019.
The pilot episode was published on May 31, 2019 on DC Universe and the other episodes followed on a weekly basis until August 2, 2019. The series was discontinued on June 6, 2019 after a published episode. Previously, the first season was reduced from the originally planned 13 episodes to 10. The reason for the shortening of the episode number and the early termination were creative differences between WarnerMedia , the parent company of DC Universe, and the producers.

Swamp Thing has received positive reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes , 94 percent of the total of 31 reviews were evaluated as positive by August 7, 2019, and the series is labeled “Fresh”. The Metacritic website received the series somewhat less positively . Based on five reviews, Swamp Thing received a Metascore 67 out of a possible 100 points.
In 2019 the series was nominated as the best superhero streaming series at the Saturn Awards .
