Gary Emmons (born December 30, 1963 in Winnipeg , Manitoba ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player . During his career he played for the San Jose Sharks in the National Hockey League and the Kansas City Blades in the International Hockey League .
Career
Emmons first played from 1983 to 1987 at Northern Michigan University in the leagues of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . During his college days he received various awards, such as the rookie of the year in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association in 1984. He was also selected in the 1986 NHL Supplemental Draft by the New York Rangers in 16th place.
However, Emmons never played an NHL game for the New York Rangers. Likewise not with the Edmonton Oilers and the Minnesota North Stars, with whom he had also signed contracts in the following years. The Canadians ran mostly for their IHL - or AHL - farm teams on. He spent the season 1988/89 with the Canadian national team , and in 1990 he moved to Klagenfurt AC in Austria .
In October 1993, the center signed a new contract with the San Jose Sharks after playing for the Kansas City Blades , the Sharks' farm team, since the 1991/92 season and winning the prestigious Turner Cup with the team in the first year . So Emmons came at the age of 30 in the 1993/94 season for his first three and only appearances in the NHL. He scored a goal. Emmons continued to play for Kansas City through 1997 and ended his career as the Blades player with the most assists (254) and points (401).
After the end of his career Emmons moved to the coaching staff of the Kansas City Blades, where he was in the 1998/99 season as an assistant coach to the gang. On February 21, 1998 his shirt number 15 was hung under the ceiling of the Kemper Arena and has not been given to a player since then.
