The Röhrl restaurant is an inn with a beer garden in Eilsbrunn in the Regensburg district . The business has been family-owned since 1658 and has been in operation for over three and a half centuries, which earned it an entry in the Guinness Book of Records in 2010 . The foundation walls of the house date from the time before the turn of the first millennium, the building itself was destroyed during the Thirty Years War and then rebuilt by Georg Hofmeister. Through numerous renovations and extensions over the centuries, most recently in 1902, the historical building ensemble was created in its current appearance.

Location and property

Ballroom building, west side

The Röhrl restaurant is located on the western edge of Eilsbrunn, opposite the parish church of St. Wolfgang. The T-shaped building is listed in the Bavarian Monument List under the number D-3-75-199-22 and is described as follows:

“Gasthaus, two-storey hipped mansard roof building with elevator dormer, 18th century, in essence probably older, re. 1665, remodeled around 1839 (marked) and extended by a two-storey gable roof, dining room in the old building with furnishings from the 1st half of the 20th century; Outbuilding, two-story saddle roof building with ballroom on the ground floor, 1902; with equipment. "

The three inns are located in the oldest part of the restaurant behind segmented arched windows on the ground floor of the main building. There is space for around 120 guests; the furniture has been kept simple and largely in keeping with the time it was built. A large dormer with a pulley system protrudes from the roof above the entrance . The inscription MDCLXV on the outside of the dormer attests to the first major renovation of the house in 1665.

A two-storey gable roof building from 1839, which originally housed stables for the associated agriculture, is attached to the main building on the right. In another gable roof building to the left of the main building from 1902, there is a ballroom with space for 250 guests on the ground floor; the first floor contained hotel rooms. The Art Nouveau door at the entrance to the old building originally belonged to this component. The beer garden offers a further 400 seats.

use

Beer was brewed on the estate as early as the turn of the millennium. The earliest known documentary mention of a delivery of beer from Eilsbrunn to St. Emmeram Castle dates from 1030 and can still be viewed in Emmeram today. During the Thirty Years' War , the entire town center including the inn and parish registry of Eilsbrunn was destroyed, including all on-site records relating to use and owners. After the war, the property was acquired by Georg Hofmeister and rebuilt, with a brewery, a guest room and an attached farm. With the addition of the hall, 12 hotel rooms were created, which were closed in the mid-1960s. Today the rooms with original furnishings contain parts of the Röhrl family exhibition on the subject of brewing, agriculture and catering. The brewery was shut down in 1971 and the building is currently being converted into a hotel. The restaurant still exists today.

history

The restaurant is run by members of the Röhrl family in the eleventh generation. The inn came into family ownership in 1658 when Andreas Röhrl (approx. 1636–1706) married Susanna Hofmeister, daughter of the landlord Georg Hofmeister. From then on, Röhrl was a beer brewer and tavern in town. Muk Röhrl, a trained chef and businessman, has been running the inn with his wife Karin, a restaurant specialist, since 2006 . The beer served in the restaurant today comes from the Röhrl brewery in Straubing , founded by Josef Röhrl, brother of Johann Nepomuk I, in 1881. The Guinness Book of Records has listed the restaurant as the oldest pub in the world since November 2010. The record relates to the continuous operation in family hands.
