Gavin O'Connor (* 1964 on Long Island , New York ) is an American film director , screenwriter , film producer and actor .

life and career

Gavin O'Connor grew up in Huntington , Long Island. After studying at the University of Pennsylvania , he found his way into the film business when he wrote the screenplay for the directorial debut of director Ted Demme for the short film The Bet (1992). Three years later he made his first feature film as co-writer and director with Comfortably Numb , which was shown at the Cannes Film Festival and the Boston Film Festival. After that he turned to the stage as a producer, writer and performer.

At the same time he began writing a script for the tragic comedy Tumbleweeds , the plot of which was based on the memories of his then-wife Angela Shelton. She had to cope with the numerous failed relationships of her mother and therefore spent her childhood on the street. For the main role, O'Connor won the British Tony Award winner Janet McTeer and took on a supporting role herself. The film, released in 1999, was nominated for numerous film awards and won numerous awards.

After accompanying several smaller, independent projects as a producer, he returned to directing the sports film The Miracle in 2004 . The film shows the history of ice hockey teams of the USA at the Olympic Winter Games in 1980 in Lake Placid , the sensational against the hockey team of the USSR won.

With his twin brother Greg, O'Connor founded Final Cut Features , a company that supports independent filmmakers. As a producer and director, he was involved in six projects between 2007 and 2008. In 2008 he also directed The Law of Honor with Edward Norton and Colin Farrell .

In 2011, O'Connor's film Warrior was released , for which he wrote and directed the script. Nick Nolte was nominated for several film awards as best supporting actor. Private life

From 1995 to 1996 he was married to the actress and screenwriter Angela Shelton. In 2013 he married Brooke Burns , an actress and former model.
