Gaylussacia tomentosa ( English hairy dangleberry or hairytwig huckleberry ) is a species of the heather family. It is native to the coastal plains of the southeastern United States ( Alabama , Georgia , Florida , North Carolina , South Carolina ).

Gaylussacia tomentosa is a shrub up to two meters high that spreads through rhizomes and occasionally forms large stands with the shoots that sprout from it. The leaves are dark or yellow-green on the upper side and pale green and shiny waxy on the underside. The flowers hang in groups of 2… 4 and are greenish white. The fruits are dark blue or sometimes white, sweet and juicy.
Taxonomy
Asa Gray described the species as Vaccinium tomentosum in 1878 . The currently valid name has existed since 1897.
