Attractions

Natural monuments

The village is mainly known for the Gebaberg, 1 km to the north. About 1 km west of the Rhön-Rennsteig hiking trail , the Rhönfrieden offers a good view of the Rhön from Helmershausen over the Wasserkuppe to the Diesburg . Following the RR path further west is the Wacholderheide on the Hohen Löhr . On the road to Helmershausen in a south-westerly direction, there is also a vantage point at the Maladebank . The 8.4 km long Dr. Malade circular path leads around the village . Like the bank, it was built in memory of Theo Malade , "the philanthropist, doctor and writer (* July 24, 1869, † December 19, 1944)", as a wooden plaque reports.

Architectural monuments

The old school was built in 1848 . The listed building has two bells in the gable and a clock underneath. Today it is used as a community room.

church

The octagonal Protestant church stands on the western edge of the village . It was built in 1791 at what was then the highest point in the village after the previous church was burned down by Croats . In 1994 it was restored and since then services and concerts have been held there again. The organ , built by Johann Caspar Rommel in 1793 and restored by Orgelbau Hoffmann in 1996 , has eight stops on one manual.
