The pleasing barberry ( Berberis concinna ), also Cute barberry called, is a plant from the family of Barberry (Berberidaceae).

description

The pleasing barberry is a deciduous (deciduous) to evergreen compact shrub that grows spread out or down and can reach a height of 1 meter. The branches are light yellow or reddish brown, glabrous and furrowed. The spines are also light yellow or red-brown and up to 1.8 inches long. The leaves are fresh green on top and whitish (sometimes reddish) on the underside on stems 0.1 to 0.8 centimeters long, are thin leathery, obovate, blunt to pointed and 0.8 to 3.7 centimeters long and 0.4 to 2 centimeters wide. They have indistinct leaf veins in a wide vein network and are serrated on both sides with three to five spines. In autumn the leaves turn red and stay on the plant for a long time. The flowers are deep yellow and sit individually or doubly on peduncles up to 2 centimeters long. The flowering period extends from June to July. The elongated berries are deep red and have five to eight seeds.

Occurrence

It is native to Nepal and the Indian state of Sikkim and inhabits heights of up to 4000 meters.

Name declaration

Berberis concinna was described by Joseph Dalton Hooker in 1853 . The specific epithet concinna means "well put together, harmonious".
