Vulture, money and golden eggs (original title: Lust in the Dust ) is an American western comedy directed by Paul Bartel in 1985 . The main roles are played by Divine and Tab Hunter , who also co-produced the film.

action

The dancer Rosie Valez is stranded alone with her donkey in the desert when she is raped by the gang leader Hard Case Williams and his men. But she can finally be brought to safety by the gunslinger Abel Wood. You arrive in the shabby village of Chili Verde , where feisty Marguerita Ventura runs a saloon. Abel finds out that Marguerita and Rosie have each tattooed half of a treasure map on their backs. As a result, various prospectors want to see the two women's backs, which leads to suggestive situations. Abel also messes with Hard Case Williams, who is also on the hunt for the treasure.

background

The film title Lust in the Dust is an allusion to the western classic Duel in der Sonne from 1946, which was often referred to as Lust in the Dust for fun because of its content .

The film was produced by leading actor Tab Hunter and his partner Allan Glaser. Hunter had shot the film Polyester with Divine four years earlier under the direction of John Waters, revitalizing his film career. Waters was offered to direct Lust in the Dust as well, but declined because he only wanted to direct films with his own script. The John Waters regular actress Edith Massey was cast in the supporting role of Big Ed, but she died before filming began, so Nedra Volz took over her part.

Reviews

The film service wrote that the film was "a vulgar western parody interspersed with quotations that never gets beyond the level of nonsense and joke." Allmovie wrote that the film is a "controversial parody of spaghetti westerns" that some viewers love and others would hate. Viewers with a rough sense of humor would probably be most interested in Lust in the Dust . Roger Ebert gave the film two out of four stars and saw the weakness in the script: Lust in the Dust is a conscious camp and funny at the beginning, but would take himself too seriously from the middle of the film, which is a mistake, because the viewer is not looking anyway interested in the story. Ebert particularly highlighted Lainie Kazan's acting performance.
