Haunted House Hohensyburg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Haunted House Hohensyburg or Haunted House Hohensyburg (sometimes also Haunted House Syburg or Haunted House Syburg ) was an empty and partially destroyed residential house that was located on a large property near the Hohensyburg castle ruins and directly near Syburg . The 19th-century building had been uninhabited since the late 1970s, fell into disrepair and was finally demolished in 2009. In internet forums in the 1990s and 2000s in particular, it was considered to be “one of the most well-known ghost and haunted houses in North Rhine-Westphalia and Germany ” and was often used by teenagers and young adults as a “horror and cult location, especially on Halloween “Attended to illegal nightly meetings.

history

History of the house

The house with a usable area of about 120  square meters was built in 1880 from bricked Ruhr sandstone . It was located on a roughly 20,000 square meter, partly wooded property and was located in the outdoor area between the Dortmund district of Syburg and its eastern district of Buchholz on Kückshauser Straße. The house belonged to the Scholle farming family; the farmer's wife later died of old age and her husband was hit by a bus while drunk on the street.

The building had been vacant since around 1979, as the property was too large for the new owners, who came from Hagen , and the maintenance was too costly. To protect the house against burglars, it was "locked" by the new owner. Among other things, the entrances were walled up and bars were installed in front of the windows. On the other hand, the vacant building received a new power connection around 1991 when a neighboring property was supplied with electricity .

A multitude of rumors , legends and ghost stories arose about the lonely and abandoned house , which were spread in particular through numerous Internet forums. For example, from August 2004 to October 2011, the Allmystery Internet discussion forum recorded more than 2000 contributions to the “Haunted House Dortmund-Syburg”. Among other things, a pastor is said to have assassinated his family there , nuns paid homage to Satan , a headless horseman was up to mischief on the site and three little boys were tortured to have died. At midnight , blood is said to have run off the walls and a bloody dress was hanging in an abandoned closet in the attic. According to other reports, cameras near the house are said to have stopped working, an acrid stench came from holes in the ground and there are bricked-up tunnels from the earlier Ruhr sandstone mining on the property .

These legends soon made the “haunted house” a popular meeting place for “fans of the supernatural” and at the same time a burden for the residents. Time and again, “followers of the paranormal , but also adventurous youngsters” and young adults gained access to the property and, in some cases, forced entry to the house. They held spiritualistic sessions there and celebrated occult masses , or just got drunk. Over the years, the illegal nightly meetings of the local police from the responsible police station in Dortmund- Hörde brought around 300 missions and many a sleepless night to the residents. Especially on Halloween , the “eerie ruin developed a tremendous attraction for scary friends” who regularly visited the “haunted house” on Halloween night from October 31st to November 1st.

In an episode of the science television magazine Welt der Wunder from September 2008, the "Haunted House in Hohensyburg " was counted among the ten "scariest places in Europe ". In July 2009, a fake newspaper article by the Westfälische Rundschau (WR) with the headline “Young man in Syburg disappeared without a trace” appeared in a chat forum . The Rundschau, which complained about the increasing "horror tourism" and the frequent nuisance of the neighborhood in Syburg, complained about the forgery and then removed it by the forum operator.

There was also a building of this type on the Schauinsland .

Demolition of the Ruin (2009)

In 2007 the building was deteriorating to such an extent that it was feared that the building would collapse. Local politicians from the Syburg district advocated the demolition of the house and asked the city authorities to examine the legal situation vis-à-vis the owner. In October 2009 the “haunted house” was demolished under pressure from the city of Dortmund, as the remains of the building were in danger of collapsing.
