background

Between 1981 and 1991 a total of 107 radio plays produced by the Braun recording studio were released . The recording studio Braun received an entry in the Guinness Book of Records for the publication of the 107 episodes . Although the series is no longer in production, the number of episodes has only been reduced by the three ??? , TKKG , the Five Friends , Benjamin Blümchen and Bibi Blocksberg .

Litigation

After losing a legal dispute with Bastei Verlag , the Braun recording studio had to stop producing new episodes in 1991. The already recorded episodes 108, 109 and 110 could no longer be published. The ruling prohibited the production and distribution of new copies of the episodes that had already been recorded; only the remainder of the radio plays could still be sold in full.

After losing the popular John Sinclair license, the Braun recording studio tried to build on previous successes with its own production Larry Maccloud - The Fighter Against the Unbelievable . The new series was cast with the same speakers and the cover design was also based heavily on the John Sinclair series.

Authors

All adapted stories were published under the pseudonym Jason Dark. In most cases, these are from the pen of the author Helmut Rellergerd , but Richard Wunderer was responsible for episode 40 . Friedrich Tenkrat wrote the templates for episodes 17, 21, 26, 30 and 55.

chronology

The novels were not set to music in chronological order, but selected according to their suitability for the radio play market. The individual novels were selected by the Braun recording studio, author Jason Dark and even the fans.

The storyline of the episodes has not been adapted to the changed order of appearance, so that the content of the novels continues to correspond. This leads to inconsistencies in the plot, when, for example, a person occurs who has died some episodes before.

numbering

Continuous numbering according to the date of publication was only introduced very late. Previously, the radio plays had three to five-digit numbers, based on the number of the novel. This led to some confusion, as the stand-alone John Sinclair booklet series, the ghost thriller and the John Sinclair paperbacks each had their own numbering.

Cover design

The illustrations from the series of novels were used to design the cover. The majority of the cover pictures come from the Spaniard Vicente B. Ballestar , individual works were contributed by Joseph Mart Ripoll, Rufus, Manuel Prieto, Sebastian Boada, Michael Whelan, Josè Pèrez Montero and Montana.

New edition

Lübbe Audio and Tonstudio Braun have been reissuing the series on CD since December 2015.
