The yellow Triteleie ( Triteleia ixioides ) is a species of the genus Triteleia in the subfamily of the Brodiaeoideae .

features

The Yellow Triteleie is a very form-rich perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of (10) 50 to 80 centimeters. This geophyte forms onions as persistent organs. The 1 to 2 leaves are 10 to 50 × 0.3 to 1.5 centimeters in size.

10 to 30 flowers are grouped together in a golden inflorescence . The inflorescence is straw yellow to golden yellow and 12 to 27 millimeters long. The perigon tube has a size of 3 to 10 millimeters, the tips are 6 to 20 millimeters long and bent back. The ovary is longer than its stem. The stamens have two winged appendages above.

The flowering time is in June.

Occurrence

The Yellow Triteleie occurs in western North America in central and northern California and southwest Oregon in oak and pine forests, on forest edges and on stream banks at altitudes from 0 to 3000 meters. It can often be found on sand, but sometimes also on serpentine.

Systematics

There are five subspecies:

  • Triteleia ixioides subsp. anilina (Greene) LWLenz : It occurs from southern Oregon to central California.
  • Triteleia ixioides subsp. cookii (Hoover) LWLenz : It only occurs in San Luis Obispo County , California.
  • Triteleia ixioides subsp. ixioides : It occurs in western California.
  • Triteleia ixioides subsp. scabra (Greene) LWLenz (Syn .: Triteleia scabra (Greene) Rattan ): It occurs in California.
  • Triteleia ixioides subsp. unifolia L.W. Lenz : It occurs from southern Oregon to northern and central California.

use

The Yellow Triteleie is rarely used as an ornamental plant in rock gardens and borders. It has been in culture since 1812 at the latest.
