On May 29, 1997, the community received the decree of recognition by the Pontifical Council as an association of believers under papal law.

Self-image

Just as life in the tension between prayer and everyday life, tradition and modernity is formative in the life of the Dominican lay community , so the spirituality of the community rests on the four pillars of contemplation (prayer) and action, sermon , academic study and community in the family. Your desired goal is life in the midst of people.

Organization and dissemination

The community of the groups of St. Thomas Aquinas is divided into a clerical and lay branch . The lay branch is entrusted with the care and administration of all facilities. Members de jure are those who, on the basis of a calling, take on the apostolic mission of the community and whose membership is sealed by a rite. Members de facto are those who participate in the community's life without being legally bound to it and who live according to its self-image. A brotherhood within the community is the “Apostolic Priestly Fraternity of St. Thomas Aquinas". The lay members are not consecrated .

The community exists in about 10,000 "families", the families form the smallest local community form. The members are spread across five countries, one in Europe and four in South America . Its facilities include nearly 40 training centers and institutions of all forms and the FASTA University in Buenos Aires. The leadership consists of the President (currently Father Aníbal E. Fosberry OP), who is also the founder of the community. It is supported by a board of directors consisting of the general secretary, the director for international institutions, the director for education and training, the director for development, the planning director, another director and assessor , the vice-president, a head of administration, a director for Progress, a legal advisor and the rector of the university.
