General Diocese of Göttingen
The General Diocese of Göttingen was an ecclesiastical supervisory district in the area of today's Evangelical Lutheran regional church of Hanover .
It was established in 1589 after Duke Julius' general visitation for the territory of the then Principality of Göttingen . The seat of the general superintendent was initially Münden , later Uslar and Göttingen . In 1879 the area of responsibility was expanded to include the Grubenhagen-Harz region . In 1903 the General Diocese of Göttingen was merged into the General Diocese of Hildesheim .
With the reorganization of the regional church under regional bishop August Marahrens , the district of Göttingen-Grubenhagen was founded in 1936 as the successor to the old general diocese.
