Geof Bradfield

Geoffrey Bradfield (born June 30, 1970 in Houston ) is an American jazz musician ( soprano saxophone , tenor saxophone , bass clarinet , clarinet , flute , composition ). He is active in the Chicago music scene and as a college professor.

Life

Geof Bradfield attended High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, then lived in New York, Los Angeles and Washington before moving to Chicago in 2004. He is a member of Ted Sirota's Rebel Souls , for which he also wrote compositions, and released his debut album Rule Of Three in 2003 . After earning a Masters at the California Institute of the Arts , he taught at several colleges and universities.

His album African Flowers was recognized in the 2010 Los Angeles Times as one of the top ten CDs of the year. His suite Melba! follows the life story of the trombonist and arranger Melba Liston . The album of the same name - one of the best CDs of 2013 for Down Beat - was released on Origin Records . In the field of jazz he was involved in 31 recording sessions between 1994 and 2014.

Bradfield has been an Assistant Professor of Jazz Saxophone and Jazz Studies at Northern Illinois University since 2012 . He received a number of composition commissions, including a. from Chamber Music America and Chicago Community Arts Partnership , Illinois Arts Council and Black Metropolis Research Consortium .
