Christoph Karl Freiherr von Godin (born December 23, 1835 in Bamberg , † December 22, 1891 in Würzburg ) was a Bavarian infantry general .

Life

He was the son of the Bavarian major a. D. Elias Freiherr von Godin and his wife Rosa, née Burkart.

Military career

Godin graduated from the Cadet Corps and in 1855 joined the 2nd Infantry Regiment "Crown Prince" of the Bavarian Army . Promoted to lieutenant in the following year , he took part in the war against Prussia in 1866 as an adjutant in the headquarters of the 8th Federal Army. After the end of the war he was assigned to the General Staff , meanwhile a captain . At the same time Godin was also active as a teacher at the War Academy from 1867 to 1870 and taught army organization and general staff service. In the war against France in 1870/71 he served as an adjutant to the Quartermaster General. He was then transferred to the War Ministry , where he was promoted to major in 1873 and used as a consultant. 1876 Godin rose as a lieutenant colonel to head of department on was on December 1, 1878 Colonel and served as such from 1879 to 1881 commander of the 3rd Infantry Regiment "Prince Charles of Bavaria" . Godin then returned to the War Department as head of department, where he became major general in 1885 . From March 7, 1887 to March 7, 1889 he commanded the 1st Infantry Brigade and with his promotion to Lieutenant General , he was appointed commander of the 4th Division . At the end of December 1889 , Prince Regent Luitpold paid tribute to his long-standing achievements by being awarded the Grand Commander of the Order of Military Merit . On August 17, 1891 Godin was due to illness of his command relieved and presentation of the character as General of Infantry to the disposition provided.

family

Godin married Marie Freiin von Pfetten -Füll on February 16, 1865 in Munich . The marriage resulted in a son, who later became the Bavarian Major General Ignaz von Godin (1866-1917). On May 27, 1882 he married Irene, widowed Baroness Schenk von Stauffenberg , née Countess von Waldkirch. She was the daughter of the Bavarian State Councilor Klemens von Waldkirch .
