Geoffrey Household
Geoffrey Edward West Household (born November 30, 1900 in Bristol , † October 4, 1988 in Banbury , England ) was a British writer , best known for the chase novel Rogue Male (German: loner, male ).
Life
Geoffrey Household grew up in Bristol and attended Clifton College from 1914 to 1919. He then studied at Magdalen College in Oxford , where he graduated in 1922 with a Bachelor of Arts . He then worked as a banker in Romania and from 1926 as a marketing manager for bananas in Spain . In 1929 he moved to the USA and wrote radio plays for children there. From 1933 to 1939 he traveled through Europe and South America as a sales representative for printing inks . During the Second World War he worked for the British secret service in Romania and the Middle East . After 1945 he lived as an author in England. He was married twice; he married Ilona MJ Zsoldos-Gutman in 1942 and had three children.
He became famous for his persecution thriller and spy novel Rogue Male , which was published in 1939 before the war began. In 1958 his autobiography Against the Wind was published . In his novels he made use of his travel experience.
In 1980 the Swedish Crime Academy (Svenska Deckarakademin) honored him together with the American author William Riley Burnett by awarding him a Grand Master for his life's work as a writer.
